Much Love Monday [New Dress]

Despite the good things that come with nearly being finished with Uni this Monday my number one love is not positive feedback from a tutor, nor is it the elation of assignments being done ahead of time. Instead it is something much simpler, a new dress. This dress is my long-awaited exhibition dress which after winging it's way into my eager arms from overseas I was scared to try on. However after much nudging from my flatmate, and impatience of finally seeing it on, I tried it. And boy did it fit perfectly. With my tired out brain (hence the boring title of this post) and a gray afternoon this was enough to make me smile. And just between us, I may or may not have spent a good portion of my afternoon twirling around and around in it until it became just a little weird.

My Cool Caravan

My mum has a thing for caravans. No matter what shape, size, or form, if it's a caravan she loves it. So much so in fact that she was given three copies of 'My Cool Caravan' as gifts last christmas. That may be two copies too many but we just like to think of it as a testament to her caravan loving.

When we were younger holidays by caravan were a special treat. Since awnings are a lot harder to put up then little pop tents it was a grown-ups job, which of course meant that us kiddliwinks could relax inside the caravan, sneaking treats from the lolly jar without anyone being the wiser. This was made all the better as if it was raining we could stay inside in the dry and warmth while our parents battled to get the awning up, providing a bit of light entertainment for us while we munched.

Holidays by caravan also usually meant holidays with grandparents, so although this was two extra people to tell us off if we were bad it was also two extra people to play with, and two extra people to give us treats.

My favorite part of holidaying with a caravan was doing the dishes. Now I am a clean freak, but I'm no dishes lover so it must've come as a pleasant surprise to my family. There was just something about the bright plastic cups and the little tiny sink that made me happy to do them. Not to mention the fact that if I did the dishes I got to be the one to pump the water tap, something we weren't usually supposed to play with.

Family trips to sunny Brisbane and Gold Coast

Fields and other rugby mania popping up here, there and, everywhere in the city.

Joining in with the World Cup fever that has enveloped our country, and proudly
watching our boys win.

Little moments of sunshine that tease of the summer to come.

Surprising bursts of snowfall allowing guilt free days inside with woolies and hot chocolates.

In the time since we last spoke there has been many things to love, and a little love list can only represent so many. With only two weeks left to go of uni ever it seems more important than ever to think about happy things in an attempt to stay sane.

Some more lovely things that deserve a mention include: letter writing between beloved friends (and not just digital either, I'm talking old school snail mail), homemade marshmallows and s'more brownies, fleeting visits from overseas buddies, recognition of hard work resulting in an internship and scholarship (yay), birthday breakfasts and dinners, visits to favorite agencies, and many, many baked goods.

Isn't it funny how time still manages to fly when you're not even having fun? Well not not having fun, but not having the sort of fun you would generally want to have.
With three assignments due for three different papers that are each worth 100% of my mark, my fun has become more about the satisfaction of ticking off items off a list, and the feeling that I've tried as hard as I can. Add onto that the "fun" of working practically full time over the last week (and weeks to come) and you can bet time blurs by.

All that awesomeness makes me even more excited to put together this weeks link love list, I even factored it into todays timetable! So here it is, indulge yourself in some web procrastination lovelies.

There are quite a few things I'd like to buy from this shop.

Much Love Monday [Writing]

There are not many things that feel quite so satisfying as putting a pen to paper and letting the words roll out. It's something I have always enjoyed without realising that the enjoyment of it was not the only reward.
Ever since deciding that advertising was the path I would follow writing has taken on a new importance. Words hold multiple meanings. They coerce, excite, emote, and sometimes they even do nothing. I spend my time putting words together to create new combinations, hoping that the outcome will be what I want.

This Monday I love writing even more than usual because the work I put in has proved itself to be worth it through the outcome of positive critique from a much admired tutor.

Little Love List

While sitting here at my computer whiling away at the mountainous tower of Uni work, I was suddenly overcome by the urge to compile a little list of the things my heart is currently brimming over for. It reminds me of when I used to create lists of things that I appreciate as a way to make sure that I kept my head up and remembered that there is always something (however big or small) to be grateful for. Indulge me a moment as I create todays little list of loves.

Writing little (chocolate contained) letters to my parents and decorating accordingly.

Creating a cupcake tower for my flatties birthday that can only be found by following a series of clues.

This Monday there is nothing that I am loving more than the idea of sleep.
That's right, nothing! Well nothing if you exclude from being back in the same country as my family and friends, and the awesomeness of the trip that preluded it, but right now in this sleep deprived state closing my eyes is all I can think of. I guess spending the night at the airport will do that to you. On that note I am going to make like a nana and go to bed, and you can safely bet as soon as my head hits that pillow I will be asleep smiling like an imbecile.

How brilliant is this 'to-do list'? It has all the fun of ticking things off your list, just four times better!

If there ever is a time when you need guidance or a bit of inspiration, Dr Seuss is the answer.

This collection of Paper Art is probably one of the most beautiful and fascinating things i have ever seen. I would love to have the couple on the bicycle for myself.

This quote is exactly what I needed to put life into context and attempt to de-stress.

I love this, and not just for the sweet name (although that may be the cause for love at first sight, that and the mention of doilies).

If I could only eat one thing from here until eternity I think it just might be this. Although my teeth and thighs probably wouldn't agree.

I love the beautiful typography and different styles of invites found here. Soon they will have social and holidays invitations which I may have to look into (even if it is just to put on my wall).

This is the loveliest hairstyle, if only I hadn't cut off a huge portion of my hair over the summer.

Seriously contemplating buying this book. It's one of those books that I will sit in my armchair and drool over, before eating a block of chocolate instead of being patient enough to make anything.

Who knew a simple napkin could be so freaking cool!

As soon as I found this I immediately added a dozen or so t-shirts and a hula hoop or two to my shopping list.

This campaign is so beautiful, yet so simple. It is filled with some of the most graceful typography I have seen in awhile.

I made these babies and they were wonderful. After seeing the pictures it was impossible to resist.

I love this! It's ingenious, and would save a lot of space in the wrapping cupboard (what, doesn't everyone have a wrapping cupboard?)

It's always nice to have a little bit of life inspiration to keep you going.

I always thought self-control was a learnt behaviour, but it turns out you can just download it!

As always inspired by the amazing Much Love.

At first glance this post will most probably set the alarm bells ringing in your head, screaming "nerd alert, nerd alert!". However although I am a self confessed nerd it's not the study part of these study nights that I love, it's the baking (big surprise there). With three assignments due in the next three days our house has been a hive of procrastination and attempts to do work. Luckily for my nerves a well known companion to study is a good friend of mine, you may know them as sugar. This companion had taken multiple forms over this weekends study nights, from homemade peanut butter cups, to bright pink cupcakes, to made from scratch pumpkin pie. What more could you ask for to aid study and procrastination?

Sometimes the rain sucks. Sometimes all you want is for it to go away. Sometimes even the fun of puddle-jumping can't make it better. But sometimes, just sometimes it can make your day.

There's the way rain means that you run laughing hand in hand from shop to shop to avoid it. And the way it lulls you to sleep when you lie listening to it by candlelight. There's also the way that it causes you to start contemplating winter boots.

This weekend I loved rain, probably because of the one I shared it with, but no matter the reason it was glorious.

big fat grey cat's photographs always make me smile.

With my slight(okay maybe a bit more than slight) addiction to food blogs I am always adding recipes to my 'To Make' folder. This drool-inducer here is no exception.

Possibly one of the cutest, loveliest save the dates ever. It almost makes me want to get married just so I can have one for my own.

This is rather interesting, do you prove BBC wrong? I've read twenty-four, and have half read another three.

Awesome Book of Thanks

Sometimes it seems impossible to shift your focus from the things your not happy about, to things that you appreciate. Bad thoughts cling to the edges of your mind so much more firmly than that compliment from a random stranger, or the fear of spiders that you just conquered.

Sometimes it all seems bleak, but all you need is a little kick in the right direction. That's where helpful (or fed up with your moaning) friends come in, but if you're not so keen on getting any butt-kicking there is this gorgeous Awesome Book of Thanks which does the trick just as well, albeit a little gentler. It is such an awesome Awesome Book of Thanks in fact that you can get your dose of feel-good-fluffy vibes by reading through the whole thing online. Even just soaking in the pictures themselves makes me perk-up a smidgen before any reading has even begun.

I don't think I will ever get over the wonder that is bookshelf porn. Every day I find another bookshelf to aspire to. At this rate my house furniture will consist completely of bookshelves!

Rihanna sounds like she'd be a fun friend, the sort of friend who helps you get into trouble then smiles sweetly to get you out. Not to mention absolutely brilliant to swap clothes with.

As someone who gets a little bit too excited over stationary I am loving these notepads. Why not have one for every occasion?

They are possibly the most beautiful family ever.

Food blogs that make me drool before throwing together something (anything) sugary are my favorite. The puddle on my laptop is getting steadily bigger after stumbling across this lovely here.

This idea knocks me off of my feet completely, leaving me sitting on the ground staring awestruck at the wall. It's such a simple way to generate not only hope and motivation, but to bring a sense of community to the area it's in. There's something in the way that sharing just a small snippet of your personality, of your hopes and dreams, that brings people closer.

I don't know how I would even begin to answer this question of what I want to achieve before I die. How do you go about narrowing down life aspirations to one simple and key longing? I love typography, and I love fashion, so you can imagine I'm jumping out of my seat over this eye-candy.

This cover letter is absolutely brilliant, I'd love to have seen the recipients face.

I love to just sit and gaze at this. Hopefully someday once I've finished being a perpetually broke student I'll sit and gaze at it for real.

My mother - the lovely, sweet person that she is- casually mentioned to me in passing whilst she was visiting that she had seen some cool graffiti that she thought I might like. Now is she one cool mama cat or what! Of course as she is after all my mother and knows me quite well (not surprising really seeing as she has know me for a fair while) she was completely and utterly correct in her assumptions. Lo and behold it's Link Love Thursday already. Thursday sure has crept up fast for a week of doing a whole lot of nothing much except finding my feet and getting reacquainted with friends. I can't deny that I have been counting down to this day as I have so many glorious finds to share, not to mention the fact that the Boy is turning up at some crazy hour of the night to visit for awhile.
Life feels good.

Here are some other things that can make a good life feel even better just from drinking in their wonders;

An extremely sweet baby shower. Almost makes me want one, not yet though!

This is supposed to be for children, but I want it for myself.

How simply brilliant is this house? Not only is it sustainable but gorgeous too. And to think that they built it themselves, with their own hands is amazing.

I can't get over how freaking cool this is.

This is a new Kiwi blog which is very sweet with some lovely photography including the photograph above. I will definitely be keeping an eye on them.

Three eyes are better than none

There's just something about street art that makes a smile edge it's way out into the corners of my mouth. Maybe it's the handcrafted element, the way you know that someone somewhere has made it their personal mission to sit down and physically create something. Not something with their computer, or by any digital means, but by sitting down (or in some cases standing up) and using their fingers to make art. And that act, that simplicity, that makes me smile.

This Monday I love the sea and all that comes with it. I love the salty smell that you can almost taste, the wisps of sea spray the graze my face, the sea gulls that line up on the beach like soldiers, the other runners that jog alongside its shores, the crashing waves, and the gentle swells.

All this has made me firmly decide that there is no better way than to start the week than by an early morning run around the edge of the city, wedged right up against the sea walls.

Well here I am, here we are again. Back to the big city, back to the lights, the sounds, the stress, the fun, the blogging, the homesick, the excitement, the fashion, and the friends. It's come up fast all of the sudden and I'm no longer sure I'm ready for it, but no doubt once I get back on this rollercoaster the twists and turns will surprise and delight me in ways I can't imagine. The only thing to do at this point is jump aboard eagerly and conquer any fear of what is up ahead. The sole way to think is with the good old glass half full, it's going to be amazing. Time to strap yourself in because here we go!

Hey hey hey! Long time no see. I am currently living in a teensy little town at the bottom of the country which has one small, unreliable internet cafe, hence the lack of updates. Unfortuantly all my attempts to create a multitude of amazing pre-written posts for you failed and the new years post I spent the last few nights crafting in word doesn't want to go on this computer. Sigh.

Despite this small drama I am relishing the change of pace and somehow love the time spent up a tree or floating in a pond without any communication with the world. It is oddly liberating and it will be interesting to see what happens when I go back to my technology driven world.

I absolutely love these, they manage to look so much more composed as stylish cycling than I ever do. I do totally have an excuse though, as where I live you're either cycling up a hill or down one.

Yay for fellow Kiwis with Blogs! I know it's not a new thing but it still excites me when I realise that they live in the same (little) awesome place I do, eg this lovely lady.

I'm obviously a bit behind the times to have just discovered My Style Pill, but I've been making up for it by going back and back and back through her older posts, devouring her style photos and remixes.

I don't know if any of you would even be interested in this or even care but currently Clemengers are my favorite advertising agency. Inside the Wellington branch they even have an awesome paint by numbers wall.

My Poppet

This is possibly one of the cutest, craftiest shops that I have seen ever. It has a gorgeous range of felted food, from bacon and eggs to sweet little macaroons. A part of me is almost sad that they're felted because they look so delectable, but any munching would just bring a mouthful of fluff. Luckily the awesomeness of them cancels out that small sad part.

My absolute favorite thing is the crochet bunting (pictured). I have a verging on unhealthy obsession with bunting at the moment, and this baby certainly floats my boat. And yes, this is most definately another christmas list hint ;)

It is really know surprise that I love sugar. Everyday I visit baking blogs and drool only to have nothing sugary in the cupboards and having to resort to eating some honey. Today I love going out for cake (yay) with workmates, planning baking escapades for when I am home in four sleeps, and dreaming of the dessert I will create for my flat-mates tomorrow. I sure do have a one track mind!

Here in New Zealand today is a public holiday, normally that means pretty much nothing to me cause hey I'm a student so I'm on holiday right now anyway, but what it does mean this time is that I had more chances to see friends, family and my love. This weekend involved many hugs, treat food, catchups, photographs and old stories. Oh course now I miss my family and love all the more, but I wouldn't have this weekend any other way.

The weather for labour weekend was forecasted to be endless sunshine letting me be lead astray into excitedly planning for walks to visit sea lions, long-boarding along the waterfront, missions up mountains and picnics in the grass. Alas the weatherman had simply gotten my hopes up again only for the weather to be gray with the occasional taunting glimpse of sun. I'm left to only day dream about summertime, and hope that it will hurry up and arrive.

Much Love Monday

Ah Monday here you are again, you seem to come around faster and faster these days. Never-the-less today I am ready for you! This Monday I adore and appreciate the fact that it is the last Monday of my third year at design school, although I have loved third year I am excited (but still scared!) for the challenges that lie ahead. I also love stress-relief brownie, which can double for celebration brownie. However the two things I love the most completely this Monday are finally having a break, and that the break will soon involve family and a tropical trip to Samoa.

Once again inspired by the awesome Much Love

You may be wondering where my heart (a mandatory of Much Love Monday) is, and rightly so. However if you look closely at the giraffe you will see that one of his spots is in fact a heart. These delightful creatures are part of my animal banner that I got to decorate my room as soon as I moved into my new flat. I love them, whenever I am sad/mad/hungry/procrastinating/ any occasion practically I can look at them and be happy. It's like reverting back to childhood which appears to be a theme today.

I also love on this delightful Monday my sister who stayed with me last week, and also just the fact she stayed with me, all the amazing food we ate whilst she was here, and all the girly movie times we had (including the awesome 90's classic '10 things I hate about you'!), not to mention friends who let me vent and flatmates who bake cupcakes and apple muffins at the perfect time. I love the sunny weather which makes it feel like summers just around the corner, and I love (but also simultaneously hate but lets not go into that) that in just two weeks uni will be over for the year!

I hope that y'all have as much to love this Monday, because it is definitely the way to start the week.

Unsurprisingly I am rather a big fan of things that are supposed to be 'kids things' (case in point, iced animals) so naturally when I came across the children's magazine Anorak I wanted it straight away. It seems so happy and positive, a nice change from the children's magazines that you generally see on the supermarket shelves filled with either gossip about child stars or digital cartoons. Even better is that it has a different theme each month (the top image is music, and second is friends) keeping it fun and engaging. Even though I'm not a kid anymore I'm pretty tempted to find some copies for myself.

I —like most organisation freaks— have a slight, okay large obsession with stationary. So you can imagine how delighted I was when I came across Rifle Paper Co. It should come as no surprise that I have already bookmarked their page, and used my favorite ones as a screensaver. The Francis the Bear invites call for a party simply so that I'd have an excuse to order them. However knowing me I'd conveniently forget to invite anyone so that I could keep all of them for myself!

One of the great things about going to a design school is the crazily talented creative people that fill up my life. For my birthday on Friday two of my gorgeous girls created this baby for me, writing out the lyrics of 'the way you do the things you do' by The Temptations. It is now hanging on my wall and at a guess gets looked at by me approximately three hundred times a day. Okay I tend to exaggerate, it's more like two hundred and fifty. I have a sneaky suspicion that I have posted about the glorious Nan Lawson before, however she is so freaking awesome that I'm sure I can rationalise it. I love the tone of these pen and ink illustrations, they are gorgeous and would add a quirky, retro element to any room they were displayed in. They even make me lust after the simple fan and glasses that are depicted in them. Too bad it's my birthday today or these babies would be on my wishlist. Those who know me will know I have a lack of any self-restraint when it comes to the sweet stuff and gelato is no exception. Of course it was only a matter of time until I stumbled over sugar-related design such as these. How awesome are these sweet retro designs from Joe Stephenson? I'm now sorely disappointed by the boring cone covers that my local Gelati shop uses and wont be satisfied until I get to hold one as beautiful as this. Or preferably get to use these exact ones. I absolutely Love Toby Ng's 'World of 100' info-graphics. His breakdown and simple imagery makes the statistics so easy to understand and comprehend as it's much more manageable to imagine what 20 people out of 100 is like than for example 8 thousand out of 4 billion. It also makes the facts hit home a little more because if you were one of the 30 who always had enough to eat yet you knew 1 person who was dying of starvation then obviously you would want to do something about it. It's design with the aim to better the world.

Here it is, my contribution to the Alphabet Walk Blog Hop, the letter Q.

For some reason I felt like a challenge, and Q sure provided that and more. I spent a large portion of an evening chasing ducks with a hand-lettered "Quack" speech bubble that I attempted to wave above their heads and simultaneously snap away at the same time. Failing that I decided that the Ducks could "Quack" for themselves and let them reside in peace. The stencil popped up beside my friendly local dairy a few days ago, just in time for another representation of the letter Q. Lastly I have often wandered past the family of sheep on my travels and have even photographed them however I have never thought of them as Quadruplets until I was racking my brains for more Q's.

It's amazing what just focusing on a single letter can change the way you view things.Whenever I see a Q I have to stop myself from shouting and pointing at it in wonder, people would start to think I was a bit weird otherwise. Anyway thanks One Sydney Road for the alphabet blog hop!

Revolving a Much Love Monday post around a pair of boots may seem a bit superficial, but do you know what? I don't care! These are my first ever pair of Jeffery Campbells and I am so in love that it scares me a little. I have even begun to love the fact that they're a size too big because it means I can fit super thick woolly socks in them. It also means that my little sister fits them perfectly but I'm trying to get her to forget that fact. They are so beautiful, some days when I'm not wearing them I get them out and sit them next to me while I work, just so I can gaze at them every now and then.

FHM Lovin'

I didn't think that there would be a day when I got excited about FHM on this blog, (or in everyday life for that matter) but when I stumbled across these Katy Perry spreads I was pleasantly surprised. There's something very clean and classic about the type layout yet somehow it still looks contemporary too. Of course Perry's gorgeous fifties swimsuit helps make it appealing to me, but the main thing I can't stop gushing over is the layouts.

While I'm in type nerd mode I thought I'd mention One Sydney Road's alphabet blog hop that I'm partaking in. My letter is the letter 'Q' which I have to photograph and interpret for the 15th of this month. For some reason I thought 'Q' would provide an interesting challenge —not to mention I'm slightly obsessed with homemade Quince jam at the moment— so we'll see how that goes.

Yup, that's right I'm a Gleek. A full-blown, crazy, have-all-the-soundtracks Gleek. Here in New Zealand we're behind everyone else on our Glee watching so when I was listening to my Glee playlist and heard Lady Gaga's 'Bad Romance' all Glee'd up I knew I had to watch it straight away. Making life sweeter

There are some things that just make life that little bit sweeter. One of those things is cupcakes, another is girly nights. From this we can deduce life would be pretty darn sweet if we combined the two, and luckily I had the opportunity to find out. As most girly nights do the evening started out —and finished with— food. In amongst these moments of devouring food there was also a few other girls night essentials including manicures, secret sharing, fashion advice and sing-a-longs. However one of the pinnacle moments of this girls night was the 2am baking of cupcakes. Dark chocolate and raspberry cupcakes to be exact. They were so beautiful that we almost didn't want to eat them, however we did but only because it would be rude to let them go to waste. In fact they were so beautiful that I had to devise a blog post around them! Maybe my cupcake obsession is going a bit too far..

There's something so satisfying about both sending and receiving hand written letters. I love them! When I know that our paths aren't usually going to cross -which happens a lot lately with him working days, me nights- I like to write a little letter and leave it somewhere to be discovered by the Boy. If I'm feeling especially crafty (or bored) it may end up with a little bit of an illustration like this one. Letters are also one of the best thing about living away from home, especially with younger siblings who like their letters to mainly be drawn. I love the imperfections, the crossed out spelling mistakes, the wobbliness of writing by hand, the time that has to be put into them, and the anticipation of knowing a letter will be received anyday now.

There's just something about it, I love rusty corrugated iron. It probably comes as no surprise seeing as my blog header suggests this obsession but to me a good rusty bit of corrugated iron is beautiful. I don't know whether it's the textures, or maybe the shapes, or even the grittiness of it that does it for me all I know is that I love it more than is probably normal...

I took these photos this weekend on the way to a 'bric-a-brac' fabric sale. The boy had to drop into his old work to sort out something so while he was there I jumped at the chance to sneakily had a bit of a wall photo shoot. How gorgeous are those colours!

Handy Graphics

So I built a Mac Desktop out of paper. Every key, every piece from paper. And then I built the screen icons like Photoshop, Illustrator, InDesign and Finder. And then I decided to make them all explode out from the screen. All because I picked up an old issue of IdN (The Handy Graphics craft issue) and found this guy here. I love his work its so cheerful and awe-inspiring, I can't get enough.

I used the computer for an assignment surrounding hand crafted graphic design merging with digital, resulting in this image. It's an A1 poster that folds up into the cover of a booklet. For some reason the Jpeg is coming out muted but believe me this baby is bright! All the cutting, pasting and paper block building made me feel like I was back at school, not that I minded ;).

Open Up Some Happiness

These two images have been circulating my desktop lately. Just looking at them you can get the general gist of how I've been feeling lately, I'm in love with life! Not to mention the people in it. I would say this comes partially from the relief of finishing the ridiculously crazy last few weeks of hand-ins, where I managed to devour all coffee in my house to keep myself up till at minimum two or three am everyday, as well as finally having some real, quality, 'get-to-know-you' time with some awesome people. These lovely images come from one of the blogs I check everyday the wonderful Le Love.

Some things I love right now/ am incredibly grateful for are:

Getting to see my favorite (/only) family in only two days!!
A real live advertising brief which post probably will result in real ads (Ahhhhh!)
Jeffery Campbell's Nude Laceup Peeptoes. (This is more of a I wish I was grateful for so fingers crossed that they become available again other wise I don't know what I'll do!)
Time to create/recreate clothing with some sewing.
Homemade Choc-chip Donuts. Need I say more?
Evenings spent snuggled up with friends, mulled wine, skins, and/or Monty Python until the early hours of the morning.

This is currently my computer screen and I can't get enough of its sweet, retro style! I recently stumbled across this etsy shop filled to the brim with gorgeous prints like this one. Most of them have some sort of inspiring quote alongside a sweet illustration. The hardest part is most definitely choosing which one to get. I can imagine one in my lounge where it could be looked at and admired everyday as some sort of stress relief when my own design is driving me crazy. Now all I have to do is convince someone to get me one (or some) ...

Family Ties

This morning I am faced with a huge to do list to tackle but it's all for the greater good because two out of my five family members are paying me a weekend visit! I am extremely excited so of course all the frantic cleaning, uni work, baking, and present wrapping will definitely be worth it. The plan is to expose them to all the glorious food around Wellington and anything else that might take their fancy. Family and any other visitors are always a good excuse for eating I find!

This week has been extremely stressful so they couldn't be coming at a better time. I've decided however that it's time to turn this stress into a more productive positive so what better time to think about all the things I appreciate or should be appreciative of than now. For example of course the fact that at 4.10 this afternoon my people will be in the same city as me (!!!!!), the boy buying me white and milk chocolate (for purely de-stressing reasons of course tehe), having a job, my shins splints finally seeming better, helpful friends, sweet heart messages, sister banter, having Strawberry Fare booked for tomorrow night, knowing that there's only so long creative blocks can last so mine must be nearly finished.

My mum is amazing.

She makes delicious lemon honey. Watches 'UP' with me when I'm feeling yuck. Gives me the most cosy, snuggly hugs. Perks up my day with an email or text. Supports me through anything. Makes problems go away with a few wise words and a silly comment or two. Puts us crazy kids first even though we don't always deserve it. Is great at helping choose shoes. Can always be relied on when I need her, even if what I need her for is trivial. Gives great presents. Is a brilliant op-shopping companion. Is an excellent role model and is someone I look up to. Makes me laugh with the silly faces she pulls. Can light up my day. Somehow always knows how to fix sewing mistakes. Made me who I am and who I am still becoming.

Kiwi Innovation

One of my first assignments of the semester was to create a set of stamps which highlighted a New Zealand design innovation. I decided to focus of Kiwi Alan Gibbs who's company 'Gibb's Technologies' have designed and created amphibious transport technology, transforming vehicles from land to water and vice versa. These stamps are the result of long days and nights, endless circles, teeny stress-outs but I am happy with the way they turned out, so like always it was worth it.
Good thing I love design ;)

AGIdeas I love you

This right here is the reason I am currently jumping up and down and all over the place with a manic grin. My AGIdeas ticket and information pack arrived today! I can't wait, in less than two weeks from now I'll be there. Not to mention I've got my studio visit with the awesome housemouse and a whole day of workshop with Michel Bouvet. YAY!

This is going to be the best experience I've ever had, and I can't wait to make the most of it (which includes a dose of exploring Melbourne shops I'm hoping). If anyone else is attending feel free to drop me a line otherwise I am so keen to hear where/what the best shops are over there.

I've been enjoying finally having a bit of time lately to indulge in some fabric therapy and work through the pile of material I've accumulated. It's great to lug my sewing machine out of it's hidey-hole downstairs and reinstate it in its rightful place on my desk. These are a few of my latest creations, as you can tell I have just re-discovered a love for all things hair related! I also have a new dress, pillowcase, skirt and hairpiece for my sisters, a skirt in the works for me and clutch but don't even seem to make a dent on my pile. Now it's just a question of what to make next?!
Any suggestions..?

I've had my eye on these beautiful photographs ever since I saw them mentioned on one of my favorite blogs. They are so wonderful, I am actually gazing at them in awe. It would be impossible to choose a just one favorite so instead I've compiled a collection of my many favorites. The owl is simple gorgeous, but what amazes me the most is the beauty that can be found in the everyday animals like this sheep and rooster. There are a lot of sheep in my country and I can't say that I've ever gazed at them in wonderment like I am now. These photos can be found in Sharon Montrose's etsy as well as other animal visual candy on her blog.

Summery Goodness

Now that the skies are starting to turn gray and an Autumn chill is beginning to creep in I am becoming a bit nostalgic for the summer sun and relaxing days with family and friends. Although I am looking forward to snuggly weather with hot Chai Latte's and layering I can't help but wish summer was back. I guess I'm a bit of a beach baby at heart. I figure what better time then to think about the things I appreciate than when I'm being a big baby, it will kick me back into gear.

Some things that I am currently (and some of them always) appreciative for are drumroll please.....
Opportunities to spend time with family, supportive friends, lovely surprise messages which arrive at the perfect moment, picnics in the lounge that involve curly fries and burritos, letters from my little sister, awesome printer's who don't mind if you're a complete imbecile and they have to help you set up your document, the joys of internet resulting in yum recipes, diy embossing instructions and eye candy, said diy embossing turning out perfectly, cheesecake night, baking as a reward, getting to raid the fridge/pantry/freezer/anything else I can find when I go home, finding strength through faith, coming home to no washing piles, Easter, silly bonding moments that come about when you throw a group of sleep-deprived stressed uni students into a room, leftovers, jobs (Fingers, eyes, arms, and legs crossed!), and this cute page.

I am loving the new "A Cup" notebook collection from Bold Ideas. There's not much I wouldn't do for one of these babies! Simple design at its best.
Here is their reasoning behind this collection: " I think everybody will ask"Why using a drink for new collection?" These ideas happened while I sat in a cafe at siam square a few months ago. Coffee places have their own atmosphere that's why my ideas of designing notebooks to get along with coffee places were happened!"

My flat mates are part of a hip hop group which not only mixes music but creates their own tracks too. I heard them for the first time on Wednesday night and I was pretty darn impressed. It made me wish I had the talent to get up there and join them! However that wouldn't sound very nice so I think I'll have to stick to creating their posters. This is the one for the gig I just mentioned. They didn't want it to be "gangsta" and knew they wanted a focus on typography with simple geometric shapes which resulted in this.
